About Competition

HSE CREATIVE OPEN: A Global Student Competition by HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL

The competition aims to bring together original ideas and standout projects across design, contemporary art, and fashion, while highlighting career opportunities in the creative industry.

Students from any university, anywhere in the world, are welcome to participate.

About the nomination

This nomination aims to craft

a cohesive, contemporary sound design

for the awards ceremony, in line with the Telling Stories project concept.

Overall sound: Trip-Hop, Downtempo, IDM, Minimal Techno, Juke, Footwork, Glitch-Hop, and other contemporary electronic music genres.

Submission requirements

Sound materials are provided in audio format for voting, as well as in a multichannel project format for subsequent mixing in a Dolby Atmos system.

Submission requirements: All sound materials must be submitted in .wav format at 48 kHz and uploaded to Bandcamp and the digital platforms of HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL. Participation is open to everyone. Shortlisted participants must provide multichannel mixes in .wav format. The use of neural networks is permitted when working on sound design elements.

Originality: Musical phrases, melodies, and harmonic progressions must be entirely original. Borrowing musical samples or loops from third-party artists is prohibited. The use of vocal and voice samples in sound design is also not allowed. The use of sound libraries, sound design elements, neural networks, and factory presets is permitted, provided the final product reflects the exclusive identity of the Telling Stories festival.

The submitted trailer composition must be a complete original work, 3.5–4 minutes long, in the genre of contemporary, relevant advertising music with elements of high-tech sound design, and include the following elements:

• A smooth intro

• An audio logo or recognizable musical phrase with original sound design

• A background theme suitable for overlaying lyrics

• Bumpers

• A finale featuring a packshot and a striking ending

The sections can form a single composition or be broken into smaller elements, each of which can function as an independent jingle, background track, or bumper. Smaller elements may be modified (arrangement, key, tempo, melody, mood) according to the relevant references.

All audio branding elements must be uploaded sequentially to Bandcamp and the hsedesign.ru platform in accordance with the technical specifications.
