The word «great» can be found in almost every article this issue. However, we restrained ourselves as we could, and, instead of endless enthusiasm and cries of excitement, we have created detailed articles about the wonderful and great people’s lives. In «Personification» there’s a story of Alvar Aalto, «the father of the Northern modernism» and the landmark of Finnish design. He loved nature, and it was mutual. Aalto designed buildings with trees sprouting through the roofs, invented vases that imitate the outlines of the lakes, and sketched lamps from wild berries.

The publication «3Z Loves You» sends the ray of love from the Kharkov studio 3Z. Its founders Sergey Mishakin and Tanya Borzunova are known as visual provocateurs and violators of the philistine world.

Traditionally, the issue is decorated with another project from «Russian Design» series by Olga and Alexander Florensky. Russian Patent has published all currently available materials related to the life and work of Nikolai Sologubnikov, the older friend and colleague of Professor Barinov. Here is the world kosmorama in two projections, and optical telegraph with a special alphabet, and many other wonderful inventions.
The article by Alexandra Rusova and Liu Jian is on the distant past: they shed light on the lives of the wonderful Englishman William Caxton, who several times got into the history of printing as a pioneer. Back in the XV century, he implemented the modern idea “Think globally, act locally», and gave points to all reading Europe, having started publishing books in English despite commonly used Latin. We should thank Caxton for a number of well-known types and illustrated books.
Here you will also find the articles about typebooks — a series of albums called Great types, published by ParaType. Exclusively for Projector, the publication has been prepared by the authors of the books — Vladimir Yefimov and Anna Shmeleva.
The subject of freewheeling, sailing, the sea and ships has imperceptibly migrated into the material on the bright duo from St.Petersburg: Boremir Bakharev and Anatoly Snop, better known as Bob and Snop. They’ve told our magazine about their project The Trilogy of Time.
Projector couldn’t have missed photographer Sergey Scherbakov, who catches impressions with an old and worn-out «Shkolnik» Read more about his Dreamtown and disappearing Packs in the section «Photography».
The project «School» introduces the readers to the legend of Soviet design, and still hard-working teacher of the Stieglitz Academy — Svetlana Mirzoyan. A significant part of the objective world of the 1970s was created to her projects: from Chaika vacuum cleaner, sconces, glasses, cutlery and so on to the van RAF and airfield equipment.
Also, within «School» you can visit a workshop on workshops. It’s taught by the people familiar with us since the previous issue: the Pprofessors Maria Zaborovskaya and Andrey Lyublinsky.
The issue is finished with the traditional section «Book». See here an old textbook on architecture by Vignola, four books by the company IndexMarket, and get some advice from Projector on One Hundred and Seven Wonderful Art Covers, a book by Vladimir Krichevsky. The member of our editorial board, and expert on book history Andrey Kharshak speaks about it.
